Professional Nurse Educators Group

The Professional Nurse Educators Group (PNEG) is a virtual group of educators from all over the United States, dedicated to the lifelong learning of professional nurses. The group is open to all educators in the field. The organization is an outgrowth of the American Nurses Association’s Council on Continuing Education (later Professional Development) that was disbanded in 1999 when ANA formed a constituent membership structure. Every year the Council held an annual conference that was sponsored or cosponsored by ANA. In 2000 the first “unofficial” professional nurse educators conference was held in order to meet the networking and educational needs of the previous council members.

PNEG as an organization was formed at a meeting of educators during the annual CE conference held in Chicago in 2002. PNEG’s purpose is to encourage and support those involved in lifelong learning from schools of nursing, hospitals, entrepreneurial and continuing nursing education programs by:

    1. Forming a community among professional nurse educators
    2. Fostering collaboration among its members
    3. Providing a forum for networking, exchanging information and discussing issues and ideas
    4. Serving as a resource to mentor new persons in the field
    5. Coordinating an annual conference where an annual PNEG meeting will be held
    6. Honoring and recognizing those who have made a difference to the field of nursing professional development
    7. Preserving the history of nursing professional development
    8. Sustaining a PNEG list serve
    9. Bridging the gap between staff development, continuing nursing education and academic nursing education.
